Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania , Walter Kumme was associated with the Gulfport Naval Training Station in Gulfport, MS during World War I. Illustrations signed W. Kumme appeared throughout the camp's year book The Gadget which was published in 1918. Walter Kumme died in 1975 and is buried in the Los Angeles National Cemetery.
