Jade Fon Woo was born in San Jose, California on September 7, 1911. He was raised in Arizona and New Mexico. After attending the University of New Mexico, he studied at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles. While attending that school during the 1930s, he was a scenic artist for movie studios (including work on "Gone With The Wind"). He moved to San Francisco during WWII and began teaching art classes at Diablo Valley College in 1954. Jade Fon taught classes there until his death in Bakersfield on November 14, 1983.
